At home it worked every time — in the kitchen, for dinner, at the back door. Then you called at the park and your dog looked at you, weighed their options, and picked the better offer. So you called again, and louder. But they ignore you as if they don't hear you. Now you're the one jogging across the field saying "he's friendly!" Sound familiar?

A solid recall is built on your dog's instinct, trust, and their relationship with you. Yes, it should be a command your dog obeys — but it's also a choice your dog makes, based on multiple reinforcers, every single time you call them.

Why won't your dog come when called?

So the question is, what are you up against? A squirrel on the fence line, other dogs at the dog park — those pay immediately. If coming to you pays less than that, your dog does the math and you lose every time. Drive doesn't care how many times you say the word.

And your command loses value. Called with nothing behind it, over and over, "come" stops meaning anything at all. Worse, if your dog gets scolded, crated, or leashed up the moment it does return, coming to you now predicts the end of the fun.

This is also the one command where being wrong can cost you the most. A dog that won't recall is one open gate away from the road.

How we rebuild the recall

We strengthen your relationship and your dog's trust, making coming to you the best offer your dog has, then we proof it under pressure.

First your dog's temperament is evaluated — drives, disposition, engagement. A dog that ignores you and a dog that's afraid to come back look the same from a distance but need much different handling. The evaluation tells us which way to work your dog.

Then your dog gets a map: the foundation first, the engagement and focus the recall sits on, then chapter 27 itself — built on a long line and paid with something that matters to your dog. Once the recall is solid, we proof it against one distraction at a time. For an adult dog, that's where the remote collar comes in, introduced the way chapter 12 teaches it, so the recall holds at a distance and off leash.

The finished picture isn't a dog that never gets distracted. It's a dog that hears you through the distraction and comes anyway.

  The full Saturday, and your dog is evaluated live by Garrett.

  Everything in the lecture, and then you work your dog in a small group with Garrett coaching — what drives him, what kind of dog he is, and your first handling skills with your own hands on the leash. You leave with your dog's training map in writing.

  Two hours at your house, built around your dog.

  Garrett comes to you, evaluates your dog where the problem actually lives, builds the training map, and teaches you the work with you holding the leash. Everything in the Working Evaluation comes with it.

  We book in-home by phone so we can ask about your dog first.
